Roseate Terns on Coquet Island

Coquet Island is the only UK site that regularly supports more than 10 pairs of breeding roseate tern. The RSPB manages areas on Coquet Island to benefit roseate terns – this includes management of vegetation to provide sufficient nesting habitat, and the creation of carefully designed nesting terraces including boxes and preferred scrape materials.

To minimise disturbance to the breeding seabirds, landing is not permitted on Coquet Island – to address this, live CCTV images from a solar-powered camera are beamed through to the Tourist Information Centre in Amble.
