Peatscapes

The North Penniens AONB contains approximately 27% of England's peat-forming blanket bog. The peatlands of the North Pennines are an important habitat for numerous types of wildlife and also provide a host of ecological services for people living in Northern England.

The North Pennines AONB Partnership's Peatscape's project is taking a leading role in peatland conservation in the AONB. By undertaking peatland restoration work, supporting scientific research on peat related issues, promoting best practice for peatland management and celebrating the importance of peat, we are working to secure a sustainable future for peatlands and all those who rely on them.
