Living Waterways

Northumberland Wildlife Trust and the Environment Agency are working together to improve urban watercourses in approximately 10 sites in and around the Newcastle area over the next three years.

As part of the Agency’s Flood Risk Management programme, the project aims to develop sustainable solutions that will reduce flood risk at the same time as increasing wildlife habitats and recreational use of urban waterways. This will be achieved through a range of community engagement events including information sessions, habitat enhancement/creation, conservation, training days and fun activity days.

These events will engage local communities in the management of their urban waterways and associated greenspaces, and to contribute towards Biodiversity Action Plan targets.
