Leaplish Wildlife Garden

Northumberland Wildlife Trust and BTCV have begun to transform a derelict rush pasture into a habitat-rich wildlife garden.  Northumbrian Water kindly donated their luxury log-style cabins at Leaplish, Kielder Water for volunteers to stay in, to enable important conservation work to take place.

Work accomplished so far includes

  • Construction of a path for easy access into the garden
  • Planting of a willow-weaved hedge
  • Bog garden
  • Tree planting
  • Native hedge
  • Dry stone wall raised bed
  • Wildflower meadow
  • Drought garden
  • Pond

It is hoped that the garden will encourage an abundance of wildlife to the site such as butterflies, birds and small mammals, as well as provide visitors to Leaplish Waterside Park with a wildlife-rich area to visit where they can enjoy nature and take wildlife gardening ideas home with them.  School groups and community groups will likewise be able to use the garden.
