Fontburn Sludge Lagoons

In order to re-instate breeding habitat for great crested newts the two sludge lagoons at Fontburn were cleared of silt in November 2006.  A third pool was also created and ditches constructed in between the pools.  Breeding great crested newts were recorded in spring 2007.
