Dragonfly Ponds at Kielder Dam

Two dragonfly ponds were constructed on the 4th of May 2006.  These ponds are located in a field that is grazed by cattle and ponies to improve species diversity but have been fenced off for protection.  They are shallow ponds with islands and large rocks for basking invertebrates.  The resident snipe made use of them in spring 2006.  They are developing well, with frog and toad spawn recorded in them in spring 2007.
